Morocco is a North African constitutional monarchy of roughly 37 million people with a GDP near 145 billion USD, ruled by King Mohammed VI since 1999 alongside a bicameral parliament and a prime minister as head of government. Its civil-time policy is among the world's most unusual: since October 2018 Morocco has observed Western European Summer Time (Africa/Casablanca, UTC+1) permanently, but pauses one hour back to UTC+0 for Ramadan each year before returning to UTC+1. Morocco holds the world's largest phosphate reserves via OCP, runs the Casablanca Stock Exchange (BVC) and operates Tangier Med, the Mediterranean's largest container port by capacity, with major Renault and Stellantis auto clusters. Recent context includes co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal (designated 11 December 2024) and reconstruction after the September 2023 Al Haouz earthquake; the Western Sahara dispute remains unresolved.
