Where do the holiday dates come from?: From the public-holiday catalog WorldClockTools maintains for each country, which is built from official government sources where available and the Nager.Date open-source dataset elsewhere. We re-publish the dates and refresh annually; for the authoritative source for any given country, click through to that country's holiday hub from the footer.
Are regional / sub-national holidays included?: Only nationally observed holidays. Holidays that apply only in one US state, one Canadian province, or one German Bundesland are not in this overview because they don't represent the whole country being off. The per-country pages have more granular regional lists.
How should I use the colour scale?: Light cells = 1 country off, medium cells = 1/3 to 2/3 of selected countries off, dark cells = more than 2/3 off. The dark cells are the dates to avoid for synchronous launches, OKR kickoffs, all-hands meetings, and global incident drills. The medium ones are usually fine but expect lower attendance.
Can I export the calendar?: Not directly from this page yet. If you want a calendar feed of the union of selected countries' holidays, the per-country holiday pages each have an .ics export and you can subscribe to multiple. The CSV → calendar tool can also turn a hand-curated list into a single .ics.
