Questions

FAQ

Where does this data come from?
The IANA Time Zone Database, sampled live in your browser via the Intl APIs. Every transition in the table is computed by scanning the actual offset rules used by your operating system's tzdata, so it includes the latest changes — Iran's 2022 DST abolition, Mexico's 2022 DST abolition, Egypt's 2023 reinstatement, and so on.
How precise are the transition times?
Transition moments are bisected down to the minute. We start with a coarse daily scan to find the day each transition happens, then binary-search inside a 24-hour window until we have the exact minute the offset jumped. Sub-second precision isn't useful here because clock changes happen at the minute boundary by law.
Why do some countries show no transitions?
They've abolished DST or never observed it. Japan, India, China, and most of the equatorial world have had a constant year-round offset for decades. The page lists them explicitly so you know the absence isn't a bug.
Does the EU still plan to abolish DST?
Legislation passed the European Parliament in 2019 to end mandatory DST changes, but implementation requires unanimous member-state agreement on which offset each country adopts permanently — and that's still unresolved. The IANA database will be updated when (and if) it happens; this page reflects whatever rules are currently authoritative.
