G7 Évian Summit
Event overview
G7 leaders meet at Évian-les-Bains, France under French presidency; Jun 15–17, 2026.
The 52nd G7 Leaders' Summit, hosted by France from Monday 15 June to Wednesday 17 June 2026 at Évian-les-Bains on the southern shore of Lake Geneva. France holds the rotating G7 presidency through 2026; the summit gathers the heads of government of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission.
The G7 was founded as a finance-ministers' forum in 1975 (the Library Group at Rambouillet) and elevated to a leaders' summit at the same château that year. France has hosted six previous summits: Rambouillet 1975, Versailles 1982, Paris 1989, Lyon 1996, Évian-les-Bains 2003, and Biarritz 2019. Évian is therefore a deliberate echo of the 2003 summit, which produced the action plan on water, the Africa partnership, and a famously turbulent G8 result (Russia was a member at the time).
The 2026 summit follows Italy's Apulia summit in June 2024, Canada's Kananaskis summit in June 2025, and ahead of the United States chairing in 2027. France's stated chair-year priorities are AI safety and governance, the war in Ukraine and the post-conflict reconstruction architecture, the Paris-Africa investment programme, debt relief for low-income countries, and ocean and biodiversity finance. The Évian site, a UNESCO Tentative-List spa town, returns to global summit logistics for the first time since 2003.
Watch communiqué fights over Russia sanctions extension and frozen-asset proceeds use, China overcapacity language, AI safety institute coordination, the Bretton Woods 80th-anniversary reform agenda, and continued language on a Gaza two-state path. Side-track outcomes are expected on critical minerals, the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII), and Just Energy Transition Partnerships. Outreach attendees typically include the African Union chair, the leaders of India, Brazil, Australia, South Korea, and the heads of UN agencies, the OECD and the IMF. France traditionally invites a host's-choice cohort to widen the discussion.
The official site is g7france.fr (mirrored as g7.gc.ca, g7italy.it etc. for past chairs). The Élysée Palace coordinates the press pool with Reuters, AP, AFP, BBC, NHK, NDR, RAI, RTBF and CBC. CNN International, France 24 and Euronews carry the family photo, declarations, and bilateral readouts live. The communiqué is published in English and the host language (French) at the close of the summit. Sherpa-track and finance-track results often emerge in pre-summit declarations through the spring.
Pair the G7 with the G20 summit in Miami and the BRICS summit in New Delhi for the full minilateral picture, and with the NATO summit in Ankara and COP31 in Antalya which sit on adjacent legs of the 2026 leaders' calendar. The CHOGM Antigua 2026 countdown tracks the parallel Commonwealth heads of government meeting. France's domestic year continues into the French presidential election first round.
When is the 2026 G7 summit? Monday 15 June to Wednesday 17 June 2026. Where is the G7 summit held? Évian-les-Bains, Haute-Savoie, France — returning to the 2003 site on Lake Geneva. Why does the 2026 G7 summit matter? It is France's first G7 chair year since 2019 and sets the Western position on Ukraine reconstruction, AI governance, and Bretton Woods reform. Who attends besides the G7 leaders? The European Council and European Commission Presidents, plus invited outreach guests typically including India, Brazil, Australia, South Korea and the African Union chair.
