Convert a time from one zone to another with daylight saving handled for you. Pick a source zone, a target zone, and a date. The tool computes the corresponding local time in the target zone using the IANA database, accounting for DST transitions and historical offset changes. Change the date and the offsets update if a DST boundary falls in between.
Frequently asked questions
- How is this different from a fixed UTC offset converter?
- UTC offsets change twice a year in most regions due to daylight saving time. A fixed offset converter (for example, treating EST as always UTC minus 5) gives wrong answers for dates on the opposite side of a DST transition. This tool uses IANA zone identifiers, so the correct offset is applied for whatever date you pick, past or future.
- Why do my results shift by an hour on certain dates?
- That is daylight saving time. For example, Sydney alternates between AEDT (UTC+11) in its summer and AEST (UTC+10) in its winter. Pick a date in October versus May and the converted time will differ by an hour for that reason, not an error.
- Can I convert a past or future date?
- Yes. Pick any date. The IANA timezone database includes DST rules for upcoming years as jurisdictions announce them, and the full historical rule set for past years, including one-off policy changes such as Samoa moving across the date line in 2011.
- Does it handle half-hour and 45-minute zones?
- Yes. Zones with non-hour offsets, including India (UTC+05:30), Iran (UTC+03:30), Myanmar (UTC+06:30), and Nepal (UTC+05:45), are supported at minute resolution. Conversions round to the minute.
