Motogp Italian Grand Prix 2026

What this countdown tracks

The clock above counts down to the 2026 MotoGP Italian Grand Prix on Sunday May 31, 2026 at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello, set in the Tuscan hills north-east of Florence.

About this event

The Italian Grand Prix is the spiritual home of MotoGP. Mugello's 5.245 km layout, with its 1.141 km San Donato straight, blind crests, and downhill Casanova-Savelli sequence, has hosted every Italian round since 1994. The Saturday and Sunday crowd is overwhelmingly Italian, the noise overwhelmingly orange and yellow Valentino Rossi tribute, and the racing among the most aggressive on the calendar.

The 2026 edition is the second running under MotoGP's revised Sprint format, with shorter Friday practice and a Saturday afternoon Sprint race counting half points. Ducati continues as the overwhelming home favourite after a decade of investment in Borgo Panigale, while Aprilia, KTM, Honda, and Yamaha bring their new-spec packages. Several riders return to Mugello after testing here over winter, giving the home crowd genuine title-contention drama.

What to expect

A 23-lap Sunday Grand Prix and an 11-lap Saturday Sprint, with both starts at 14:00 CEST. Mugello's smooth tarmac and high-speed corners reward aerodynamic stability and tyre management. Track-limit penalties at turn 1 and the final chicane have been recurring strategy variables. With Italian riders typically over-represented in the entry list, expect partisan grandstand support that gets even louder if a Bagnaia, Bezzecchi, Marini, or Bastianini is in title contention.

Past results

  • 2025: Marc Marquez won for Ducati after a season-defining late-race pass.
  • 2024: Francesco Bagnaia won at home for the third straight year.
  • 2023: Francesco Bagnaia took back-to-back Mugello victories.
  • 2022: Francesco Bagnaia broke through for his first home Italian GP win.
  • 2021: Fabio Quartararo won as Yamaha's last winner at Mugello.

How to watch

In the UK the race is on TNT Sports with full session coverage. The US carries it on the MotoGP Videopass and select streams via NBC Sports Gold. Sky Sport MotoGP streams every session in Italy. India is on Sports18 and Jio Hotstar. The 14:00 CEST race start converts to 13:00 BST, 08:00 ET, 17:30 IST, and 22:00 AEST.
