Age calculator.

Enter your date of birth and watch the seconds of your life tick by in real time. This page decomposes your exact age into years, months, days, hours, minutes, and seconds — using calendar arithmetic that respects month lengths and leap years — and counts down to your next birthday. Below that, a milestone table shows when you turn 18, 21, 30, 40, 50, 65, and 100, plus the dates you cross 10,000 days, 25,000 days, and 1 billion seconds alive. Everything runs in your browser; your date of birth never leaves your device.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my exact age?
Your exact age is the elapsed time between your date of birth and right now, decomposed into calendar units. We start with whole years (the number of complete birthdays you have had), then take the remainder and break it into whole months, then whole days, then hours, minutes, and seconds derived from the day fraction. Because months have variable lengths (28–31 days) and years occasionally have a leap day, calendar arithmetic — not simple division — is the only way to get a number that lines up with how people actually count birthdays. This page uses date-fns under the hood, which handles those edge cases correctly.
How many days have I been alive?
Total days alive is the integer number of midnights between your date of birth and today, computed in your local time. A typical lifespan in the developed world is roughly 27,000–30,000 days. Memorable thresholds along the way: 1,000 days at age 2.7, 10,000 days at 27.4, 25,000 days at 68.4, and 30,000 days at 82.2. Below the day display we also show total weeks, total hours, and a couple of fun derived stats (estimated heartbeats and breaths) so you can put the number in perspective.
When will I turn 18 / 21 / 30 / 50 / 65?
The milestone table on this page lists the calendar date you turn 18, 21, 30, 40, 50, 65, and 100, plus the dates you cross 10,000 / 25,000 / 50,000 days alive and reach 1 billion / 2 billion seconds old. Each row shows the date and whether the milestone is in the past or the future. If you were born on 29 February, your milestone birthdays in non-leap years are shown on 28 February, which is the convention used by most legal systems for age-of-majority and pension dates.
What's the difference between Western and East Asian age counting?
In the Western (international) system you are 0 years old at birth and gain a year on each birthday — this is what this calculator computes. The traditional East Asian counting system is different: you are 1 year old at birth (counting the in-utero year), and everyone gains a year on Lunar New Year regardless of their actual birthday. Under that system a baby born on Lunar New Year's Eve becomes '2 years old' the next day. South Korea formally moved to the Western system in 2023; the traditional method is still common in informal speech across China, Korea, and Vietnam.
Is age calculator data private?
Yes. Everything happens in your browser. Your date of birth is stored only in your browser's localStorage so that the page remembers it on reload, and it never leaves your device — there are no API calls, no analytics events, and no server-side logging of the value. Clearing your browser storage for this site removes the saved date completely. If you are using a shared computer and would prefer not to persist anything, just clear the date input and reload before stepping away.
Can I use this for pets?
Yes — the calculation is just elapsed time between two dates, so any past date works: a pet's birth or adoption date, an anniversary, the day a project started, the launch day of a product. For dogs and cats, multiplying years by the usual 7× rule is a rough approximation; vets now use a more accurate logarithmic formula (16 × ln(human_years) + 31 for dogs over 1 year). The raw numbers from this tool give you the inputs for whichever conversion you prefer.
